Inbound digital media marketing trumps outbound traditional methods (infographic)

Monday, October 31st, 2011

The Internet and social media have fostered a new type of marketing communication: inbound, vs. the outbound traditional marketing via TV, billboards, and radio.

Technology – such as the ability to skim past TV ads, listen to ad-free radio, and even block online display pop-ups – increases the importance of inbound marketing.

The two-way communications of inbound marketing requires a company to earn a consumer’s attention with engaging content, whether blog posts, podcasts, Facebook interaction or tweets.

Here’s an infographic from Voltier Digital examining the two types of marketing:

Infographic chart details which social networks fit your goals

Friday, March 11th, 2011

FacebookInfograpics are all the rage online right now, but how many of them do you actually use? CMO.com and 97thFloor, an SEO company, have created an actual chart called the “2011 CMO’s Guide to the Social Landscape,” that details which social networks are best for specific goals.

So, if your main purpose in using social media is customer relationship management, marketing, or organizational, it will help you decide which social nework best fits your needs. You don’t have to be a chief marketing officer (CMO) to find the chart useful.

Want to drive traffic to a client’s site or your own? You might be drawn to the large number of users on Facebook or Twitter, but according to the chart, StumbleUpon and Digg would deliver better results.

Need to repair reputation after something goes wrong? YouTube might be your best bet, the chart suggests. Also, “YouTube branding is second only to Facebook,” when people research a company, it adds, and it’s also very good for building links back to your site.

Looking for personal branding? LinkedIn is probably the right venue.

Need to post bulk images from a company event? Use Facebook. Posting a handful of quality images? Flickr is better.

While the chart is fairly basic, it provides insight into the type of thinking a good SEO firm provides – or entrepreneurs and companies should develop – to take the most advantage of social media for a given purpose.

If you use social media for commercial purposes, it’s certainly worth a look.
