Cylex boosts immune system with $3.3M raise

CylexCOLUMBIA, MD – Columbia-based Cylex, a company developing technology to “illuminate immunity” in transplant medicine, has raised $3.3 million in equity, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Channel Medical Partners and Canaan Partners led a $20 million investment in the company in 2007 with participation from Siemens Venture Capital, GmbH and private investors. Other previous investors inlcude First Analysis and Roche Venture Fund.

It is noteworthy that the company has two of the top diagnostic companies in the world, Roche and Siemens, among its investors.

The company has developed patented technology that provides an innovative platform to simply and reproducibly assess immune cell function, thus providing crucial insight for individualized transplant patient management.

This patented technology, as part of a global immune status monitoring strategy has been used to help identify kidney, liver, lung and heart transplant patients with low immune response – having the potential to lead to infection.

Maryland has been experiencing a healthy year in the venture funding realm. We’ll be interested to see how the state fares in the various venture reports at year’s end.
