Yahoo adding Facebook Connect, Google inlcuding Twitter login option

December 3rd, 2009

Internet giants Google and Yahoo bowed to the increasing dominance of social networking sites Facebook and Twitter this week.

Yahoo said it will add Facebook Connect, which allows users to sign into sites with their Facebook ID, across many of its properties.

Google said it is including Twitter as a top-level opt-in option on Google Friend Connect.

The moves caused some discussion on the Web about the increasing control sites such as Facebook and Twitter may exercise over online IDs.

Google did not include a Facebook option, probably because the search engine leader sees the site as major competition in many areas.
