GeoCities, Yahoo’s free Web hosting service, is shutting down today (Oct. 26). Some efforts are being made to archive its data, but much is expected to be lost.
Once the Internet’s third most visited domain, the service was founded in 1994 by Beverly Hills Internet and bought by Yahoo in 1999.
AOL shut down its free Hometown AOL hosting service last year and users could not recover their pages.
