BIRMINGHAM, AL – Regions Financial Corp. ranked number three for making small business loans under $1 million among U.S. banks, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration’s annual report.

American Express Bank Federal Savings Bank and Capital One Financial Corp. were one and two.

Winston-Salem-based BB&T (NYSE:BBT) was the top SBA lender in the North Carolina district.

It made 80 SBA-guaranteed loans from Oct. 2008 and April 2009.
