Charlottesville-based HemoShear raising $3.5M round

May 4th, 2009

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – HemoShear has raised half of a new $3.5 million round, according to Dow Jones’ VentureWire.

The company makes a human surrogate technology that mimics the biochemistry and physiology of the human vaculature and other major organs in the laboratory.

The company raised a seed round of about $1 million last year.

It says its technology can provide pharmaceutical companies information on human response to new drug candidates much earlier in the drug development process than traditional testing methods, saving time and hundreds of millions of dollars in research and development expenditures.

It says its scientists have created proprietary screening panels for genes, proteins, and biomarkers which are needed to evaluate effects upon the vasculature and predict the likelihood of successful treatments in humans.
