April 10th, 2009

WASHINGTON, DC – LivingSocial a social discovery tool for reviewing, sharing and organizing favorite things, has acquired BuyYourFriendADrink.com (BYFAD), a New York-based, automated sampling solution for the beer, wine and spirits industry.

Financial details were not disclosed.

BYFAD has engaged with beverage brands since its launch in 2007 by running sampling programs to bring consumers to bars for product trial.

BYFAD also allows users to buy drinks for friends who they may not be near. Once a user buys a drink for a friend on BYFAD they receive a consumer card, which allows that friend to enjoy a real drink at participating bars.

The company says BYFAD brings valuable on- and offline brand marketing to LivingSocial’s portfolio, and together, the companies will drive beverage industry marketing campaigns to new markets.

“The BYFAD team built a social platform for the beverage industry that’s proven to be successful. There are great synergies between their drink gifting and redemption platform and LivingSocial’s users,” said LivingSocial’s CEO and Co-founder Tim O’Shaughnessy.

hrough LivingSocial, more than 200 million books, movies, TV shows, music, video games, iPhone apps, restaurants, and beer have been catalogued on LivingSocial.com and through Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, hi5, and Orkut.
