RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – The NC Biotechnology Center has asked all of its employees to take unpaid leave of a day a month to save up to $250,000.
“Without eliminating a single job, we can conserve state resources and continue to conduct our programs that promote economic development during a time of shrinking budgets,” said Biotech Center President Norris Tolson.
The state-funded center is known worldwide for its role in helping make North Carolina a leading U.S. biotechnology hub.
NC Gov. Bev Perdue has asked all state agencies to slash their budgets by 9 percent to deal with tax shortfalls due to the economic downturn.
