COLUMBIA, MD – The Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) has awarded six university researchers in the state $359,993 total through its University Technology Development Fund (UTDF). \
Researchers from the University of Maryland College Park, Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), and the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), received the funding.
The University of Maryland College Park award was matched by the Johnson & Johnson Corporate Office of Science and Technology (COSAT) – a first for the UTDF program.
“Maryland’s dedication to early-stage university technology makes our state not only a sought-after location for the nations most prominent researchers, but very appealing to influential companies for potential partnerships as demonstrated by the Johnson & Johnson investment, said Renée Winsky, president and executive director of TEDCO.
The aim of the UTDF program is to help researchers develop and assess the viability of new technological inventions, test prototypes and optimize principle research designs.
Applications for UTDF funding are accepted continually and reviewed monthly. Applicants must submit a proposal, a commercialization plan for the technology to be developed, a scope of work and budget.
