Ziptronix takes $1.8M recap tranche

MORRISVILLE, NC – Ziptronix has secured the second $1.8 million trance of a Series 1 recapitalization, according to VentureWire.

A spinout of Research Triangle Park-based RTI International, Ziptronix makes 3D semiconductor circuits in layers.

The company says they can do more work with less power and less heat without taking up additional space, like building skyscrapers in cities, where up in the only place left to go.

The technology also permits bonding chips without wires.

The technology is expected to be especially useful in proliferating devices such as mobile phones, MP3 players and flash memory cards, gaming devices and ultra mobile PCs.

Ziptronix, founded in 2000, raised more than $33 million previously. Investors include IDEA Fund Partners, Intersouth Partners, Grotech and RTI.
