RALEIGH – The FDA is asking Salix Pharmaceuticals to perform another human trial for its drug – balsalazide, a treatment for the gastrointestinal disorder ulcerative colitis, before the medicine can be sold in the U.S.

Salix said it doesn’t agree with the FDA (Nasdaq: SLXP) and is going to attempt to work with the regulators over the next 30 days to avoid having to do another trial.
