My Heavens: New Florida marketing agency wants to boost ads into space

July 24th, 2008

CAPE CANAVERAL, FL – Celestial Marketing, which officially launched this week, says it plans to take advertising to new heights: outer space.

While it may sound like pie in the sky to some, the agency says it plans to leverage global space industry connections to create extra-terrestrial campaigns that include satellites, space stations, space-bound vehicles and even the moon.

The whole idea conjures visions of moon billboards the size of North Carolina, rockets emblazoned with ads for McDonald’s coffee and astronauts juggling M&Ms as part of their product placement duties.

But these folks are serious.

Celestial Marketing founders, Aaron “Alan” Drexell and Steven Scharf, hold a combined background in space and advertising. Prior to founding Celestial, Drexell worked in various capacities in the development of GPS technologies for governmental and private applications.

Scharf began his career as a consultant, working with various well known brands.

The 19-employee company says it has hung out its shingle and is looking for companies with “forward-thinking brands interested in the space space.”

The new firm’s well-designed Web site includes PDF descriptions of Shuttle advertisement and EMU advertisement specifications which suggest the wings, tail stabilizer, booster rockets and payload bay may be targets for advertising.

They don’t say what NASA thinks about all of this.

The company says to expect its first major project in the next month or so, but did not include any details.
