RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – Insomniac Games, a developer of several top-selling video games, says it will open a Research Triangle, NC-based office and employ up to 30 people.
Based in Burbank, CA, Insomniac’s games include Sony Playstation 3 titles “Ratchet & Clank,” and “Resistance.”
The move is the 14-year-old game developer’s first expansion.
The Triangle area of North Carolina has increasingly become a hub of video game development.
Epic Games, developer of the hugely successful “Gears of War,” is based in Cary. Red Storm Entertainment, bought by French-based Ubisoft, is in Morrisville. Emergent Games has a Chapel Hill office, and Cary based Virtual Heroes creates so-called “serious games” for military training and other educational purposes.
Other game developers in the Triangle include Destineer Games, cdv Softwware Entertainment, Funcom, and Icarus studios.
