DESTIN, FL—M.C. James says the spirit of entrepreneurship has always been “deep within me,” and when he launched a company, WEBScientifics Corp., he didn’t go half way. His conglomerate of sites include news aggregator Netnewsreports.com, a social networking site for blind dates, and an ebook and emagazine site, among others.
James says the marjority-minority-owned corporation formed in 2006. It focuses on Web technologies and concepts growing from Web 2.0, including applications, portals, services and even Web hosting.
James tells TechJournal South the company is seeking from $365,000 to $4 million in seed or venture backing to ramp up. He is currently the only full time employee. He is seeking people for senior management positions and works with others on a non-full-time basis.
Netnewsreports.com, currently featuring global and national news, will eventually be “a hyper-local” news source as well, says James. The subsidiary will be headquartered in Newport News, VA.
The company initially is selling advertising and will sell memberships, but currently, James says, “all our services are free, and the business model is based on advertising and paid sponsorships.”
Among WEBScientifics numerous properties are:
ADmosphere.net, a free Web service that will provide local banner advertising from sites within its network that other sites may deploy to share ad revenue.
Digitalverify.net, a Web service intended for ebusiness verification.
IsSheisHe.com, a social networking site for blind dates.
Querysmarts.com, a proprietary collective intelligence system for Queryosity, a question and answer based search engine, with a widget forthcoming.
Oakpoetry.com, a portal for those with a poetic flair.
GeneticME.com, a community-style portal for “scientifically precise” responses to promote hyper-personalized cardiovascular health information based on a user’s genetic score.
ScheduleMY (www.schedulemy.com) is being developed by WEBscientifics R&D as a hardware device for use away from the office.
ViFiPHO, a by-invitation-only multimedia sharing site.
YearMakeModel.info, a vehicle information portal users can personalize for their own needs.
64bitweb.com offers 64-bit application services hosting and data intensive storage.
Most of the sites and services are in very early development.
“We’re just starting to get some traction,” says James.
