COLUMBIA, MD– The Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) announced today that it has helped fund the new technology and intellectual property database, InvenioIP. The site provides investors and others free access to tech IP available from Mid-Atlantic research institutions.
The web-based resource, developed at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, allows free access to technologies available for commercialization from academic institutions, federal government research facilities and private companies in Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia.
The amount of the investment was not disclosed. InvenioIP’s database can be accessed at www.InvenioIP.org.
Before the creation of InvenioIP, patent information for early stage technologies was not readily available, making the process of seeking out new innovations time-consuming for potential investors. InvenioIP simplifies this process by centralizing one database for cutting-edge technologies developed by research institutions throughout the mid-Atlantic.
“InvenioIP is a one-stop shop for those seeking progressive innovations, and a valuable resource for researchers, developers and technology investors,” said Renee Winsky, president and executive director of TEDCO.
Launched late last year, InvenioIP currently provides summaries and investigator contact information for more than 1,900 technology innovations from a broad range of disciplines. Each summary provides a brief description of the technology, along with potential applications, licensing and patent information.
Quick results
InvenioIP eliminates the need for searching individual websites for technologies available for licensing, allowing users to rapidly locate innovations that match their needs.
The site’s IpPULSE list-serve function allows users to develop technology search criteria and receive automatic updates when new information is added to the website. InvenioIP is available to the general public and requires no registration or fee for users.
“I was impressed by the quick results and inquiries that InvenioIP provided,” said Sara Miller, technology transfer associate at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command. “We posted our technology and within 24 hours we received an inquiry. InvenioIP allows for quick and easy leads for technology transfer.”
InvenioIP lists technologies developed at The Johns Hopkins University; The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory; the University of Maryland, Baltimore; the University of Maryland, Baltimore County; the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute; the University of Maryland, College Park; the College of William and Mary; Georgetown University; USAMRMC; and Avanti Therapeutics.
UMB will continue to expand the number of organizations posting entries and, at present, is actively working with five universities and two companies interested in joining the InvenioIP community.
