COLUMBIA, MD–The Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) says that four Maryland technology companies have received $300,000 total in funding.
Bamvet Laboratories Inc., HeMemics Biotechnologies Inc., Vivomind Intelligence Inc., and 3CLogic Inc., each received $75,000 from TEDCO’s Maryland Technology Transfer Fund (MTTF).
This program is designed to foster greater collaboration between businesses and Maryland universities and federal laboratories to bring technology into the marketplace.
To date, 87 companies have received funding from MTTF and completed their projects. With an investment of $5,038,179.41 these companies have gone on to receive downstream funding from angel and venture investors, federal awards and other resources exceeding $168.3 million.
Bamvet Laboratories, Inc., (formerly Baltimore Animal Medicine, Inc.), located in Baltimore, is working with Johns Hopkins University (JHU) to develop a veterinary drug system that provides continuous release of analgesia for post-surgical pain relief in animals.
The tablet, implanted at the time of surgery, releases pain therapy for three days. Initial stages of development have been accomplished and an Investigational New Animal Drug (INAD) has been obtained from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
HeMemics Biotechnologies Inc., located in Rockville, Md., is working with the University of Maryland School of Medicine to develop technologies to dehydrate biologics, including proteins and cells, in dried or partially dried format. Unlike those stored in aqueous or frozen format, these dehydrated biologics allow ease of storage, transport and an extended shelf-life, and have diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
Vivomind Intelligence Inc., located in Rockville, Md., is working with the United States Government to proceed from alpha level development of its intelligent software agents to commercial business intelligence and semantic data mining applications in the oil and gas industries. Possible commercial applications for the company’s proprietary software solutions include deep web data mining, semantic search, real-time streaming data interpretation and drug discovery.
3CLogic, Inc., located in Rockville, Md., is working with the University of Maryland College Park to develop standards based peer-to-peer (P2P) networking technology for voice over internet. 3CLogic has developed its standards based P2P networking technology so that services such as contact centers, Private Branch eXchanges (PBXs) and help desk support can be offered in the form of Software as a Service (SaaS) in the most cost-effective way.
Applications for funding programs are accepted continually and reviewed monthly by the TEDCO funding review team, which includes representatives from TEDCO, the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, affiliated venture capital groups and the Johnson & Johnson Corporate Office of Science and Technology.
Applicants must submit a proposal, a commercialization plan for the technology to be developed, a scope of work and a budget.
