NORFOLK, VA—Landmark Communications plans to sell the Atlanta-based Weather Channel, which has been acquiring Web sites with a weather connection through its interactive arm, according to the Virginian Pilot, which Landmark also owns.
The newspaper says the Norfolk-based company may sell its assets in pieces. They include nine daily papers in addition to the Weather Channel.
The company posted $1.7 billion in sales in 2006 and employs about 12,000 people. Its newspaper holdings include the Roanoke Times in Virginia and The News & Record of Greensboro, NC.
