MORRISVILLE, NC—BioDelivery Services International, a company developing a new treatment for cancer pain, inked a deal with Swiss-based Meda AB that could bring the company up to $90 million in royalties and fees.
If the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves the treatment, a pain-killing patch that attaches inside the mouth and delivers Bema Fentanyl. The treatment is intended for post-surgery cancer and emergency room patients.
Meda will pay BSI $30 million up front and an additional $30 million if the patch is approved. BDSI could earn another $30 million in sales milestornes.
BDSI’s stock (Nasdaq:BDSI) rose 50 cents in morning trading after the announcement of the deal and has doubled the past year.
