STERLING, VA—Anystream, which sells on demand video software that lets entertainment and education clients publish via new media, has acquired Lectopia. Anystream’s education division, Apreso, and Lectopia, which captures lectures, will re-emerge this fall as Echo360 Inc., separating Anystream’s media and education units.
Financial details were not disclosed.
Lectopia was born in higher education as an operating division of the University of Western Australia. By adding Lectopia’s 500+ classroom deployments and 20 customer institutions to Apreso’s roster of nearly 160 customers, Echo360 will boast more higher education installations worldwide than any other capture technology.
The new brand was created to symbolize the benefits of Echo360’s unique on-demand lecture replay; 360 signifies the flexibility for students to learn round-the-clock and from anywhere in the world. The solution allows students to replay or “echo” lectures as many times as it takes to get the concept down.
Echo360 captures classroom audio, video and projected visual aids, to create a rich media echo of the experience, viewable from any computer. Mobile students can also take their “echo” on-the-go by downloading lectures to their iPod or MP3 player.
