Virginia’s Aurora gets $6M for unmanned flight system

MANASSAS, VA—Aurora Flight Sciences has received a $6.1 million contract with the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command to continue development of its Orion HALL long endurance unmanned flight system.

The contract includes options that could bring its total value to $27.7 million.

The Orion HALL project is a testbed for an advanced hydrogen propulsion system. The company is testing a Boeing hydrogen engine that could carry payloads of 400 pounds to 65,000 feet for 100 hours.

The company is also testing a conventionally powered versxion that could carry a payload to 20,000 feet for up to two weeks.
