COLUMBIA, SC – House Speaker Bobby Harrell has proposed legislation and tax credits that would create a $15 million fund to attract companies involved in hydrogen fuel technology research and development to South Carolina.
The South Carolina Hydrogen Infrastructure Development Fund calls for a grant administrator to work with several South Carolina universities that currently are involved hydrogen fuel cell research and technology transfer.
“This plan is centered around two things: developing a clean alternative fuel and creating jobs for our citizens,” said Harrell, R-Charleston. ‘For this to happen, we need to encourage private sector involvement in this field.”
Harrell states that the funds would be available to private companies that work with the universities of South Carolina, Clemson, South Carolina State, and the Savannah River National Laboratory, all of which would help determine what companies receive the financial incentives.
