EVERY HIGHWAY, USA – If it’s Thanksgiving, and it is, then the only trip you’ll be taking in the next several days is either along the highway or to your lazy boy in front of the TV. For those who only have to do the latter, congratulations. For the rest of us, get ready for some gridlock as you head over the river and through the woods.
According to the American Automobile Association, approximately 31.7 million people are expected to flood the highways, more than last year when a gallon of gas was 9 cents more expensive.
“We think we’re going to have probably some of the largest numbers of travelers ever to travel on the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Mantill Williams of the American Automobile Association. “The busiest travel days tend to be on Wednesday in terms of going by car. People tend to leave Wednesday afternoon and they come back Sunday evening.”
Some good advice to avoid getting flustered on the roadways: add 15 minutes to every hour that it normally takes to get where you’re going.
Of course, if you’re flying, remember that this is the first big holiday in which the new government rules on carrying on liquids, gels, and aerosols are in place. In that case, add 15 minutes to the time it normally takes you to curse under your breath.
